In the 1970s, the concept of Multiple Intelligences emerged as a result of the studies of H. Gardner, where, highlighting the differences in the necessary skills that individuals face depending on the circumstances, cultural environment or obstacles, seven types of intelligence are identified, namely: Linguistic intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, spatial intelligence, musical intelligence, kinesic-corporal intelligence and intra and interpersonal intelligences, the latter two being the ones that give rise to the emergence of Daniel Goleman's proposal with the term Emotional Intelligence, originally exposed by Peter Salovey and John Mayer of Yale and New Hampshire Universities respectively.
People with well-developed emotional skills are more likely to be satisfied and effective in their lives, and to master habits of mind that favor their own productivity; people who cannot bring some order to their emotional lives fight inner battles that sabotage their ability to concentrate on work and think clearly.
This term "emotional intelligence" refers to the ability to recognize our own feelings, the feelings of others, motivate ourselves and adequately manage the relationships we have with others and with ourselves. This intelligence encompasses a series of skills and competencies that through multiple studies have been shown to be characteristic of successful people who did not necessarily have a high IQ evaluation.
Why is it important to recognize our emotions?
Because emotions are the ones that direct, guide and provoke our actions.
The basic tools to develop Emotional Intelligence among others are the recognition and management of emotions, assertiveness and from our point of view the use of the tools provided by neurolinguistic programming.
Emotional Intelligence is one of the most valuable resources that support human beings in their personal growth with the help of the combination of mind and heart.
Through the techniques of emotional intelligence can achieve the release of negative emotions through an effective management of them.
